The Denver Broncos’ no-good, miserable season just got a lot worse. A day after dropping to 0-4 with a 26-24 last-second loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, the organization learned that edge rusher Bradley Chubb has torn his ACL, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He reportedly returned to the game after suffering the injury, but now will have season-ending surgery.
Chubb grabbed his first sack of the season on Sunday, which along with Von Miller, DeMarcus Walker, and Malik Reed marked the Broncos’ first sacks of the 2019 season.
Fantasy analysis: The Broncos defense had been a disappoint, with the pass rush being the biggest issue. Miller and Chubb were shut out of the sack column the first three weeks, and this looked to be a breakout performance. Miller will pile up sacks at some point this season, but losing Chubb is a huge blow to those counting on a return to form by the Broncos.
Gambling impact: This won’t have a huge impact on line movement, but it might nudge the betting public in another direction. The Broncos are currently a 6.5-point underdog at DraftKings Sportsbook for their Week 5 road game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The line won’t see a lot of movement, but it’s not getting easier to bet on the Broncos. They face a Chargers offense that will get Melvin Gordon back, and will hope to see Mike Williams back on the field. The Broncos got their offense going against a Jalen Ramsey-less Jaguars defense, but now faces a Chargers defense that should be able to get something going with Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. It’s not a great spot for a team that just lost a premier pass rusher.
