The Cincinnati Bengals are not going to win many games in 2020, but rookie quarterback Joe Burrow is helping turn them into a fun show. The NFL recognizes as much and is working to get them in front of a few more eyeballs.
The NFL is in the period where it can move games around for optimal television. Thus far this season, the schedule changes have been primarily due to Covid-19. This is one of the first that’s simply about improving TV.
What’s particularly interesting about this change is that it comes in a week in which we’ll have one of the most balanced TV schedules of the NFL season. Most weeks, the 1 p.m. slot is heavily weighted with as many as seven or eight games in that slot and only three or four in the 4:05/4:25 p.m. slot. With this move, the 1 p.m. slot has five games and the later slot has six games.
