Will Patriots-Broncos play as scheduled in Week 5?

Positive Covid-19 tests following Week 4 are now putting the Patriots Week 5 matchup with the Broncos in question.

Game time moved: The Broncos-Patriots game has been moved to next week, Sunday of Week 6, per Adam Schefter. The league is going to reschedule Broncos-Dolphins to make room for this game. UPDATE: The NFL announced it will be rescheduled, but has not confirmed exactly when yet.

Sunday AM update: The Patriots have had another positive test from their Saturday testing and have re-closed the facility, per Adam Schefter. Monday’s game against the Broncos is in question,

Saturday AM update: The Titans had no new positives on Saturday morning and are set to reopen their facility, according to Jeremy Fowler. The Bills-Titans game remains on track for Tuesday.

Friday AM update: The Patriots have no positives Friday morning, per multiple reports, which is a second straight day of no positives. They will not return to their facility until Saturday, but their Monday game remains on track for now to be played.

Thursday PM update: The NFL is moving Broncos-Patriots from Sunday to Monday evening, according to Mike Klis. The game is expected to start at 5 p.m. ET so there is little to no overlap with ESPN’s Monday Night Football game.

Thursday AM update: The Patriots had no new positive tests Thursday morning, per Ian Rapoport. If they do not have any new positives heading into Friday, they could potentially return to in-person practice on Friday.

UPDATE: The Patriots first practice, if they have no more positive tests, would be on Friday, per Albert Breer.

The NFL season continues to teeter precariously in the wrong direction, as three new positive Covid-19 involving NFL players have surfaced on Tuesday. The Patriots added another positive test, with Stephon Gilmore’s Tuesday morning test coming back positive. The Patriots now have last season’s defensive player of the year and Cam Newton, the 2015 MVP, both out with Covid-19.

Gilmore’s positive test is the most pressing at the moment though, as he played Monday night against the Chiefs and rode in an airplane with the team back home, then tested positive the following morning. That puts the Chiefs and the Patriots all at risk for more positive tests moving forward. Patrick Mahomes and Gilmore are even seen hugging after the game in photos.

Now the Patriots-Broncos game is in serious question while the Chiefs-Raiders game is also hanging by a thread. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that the Chiefs did not have any positive tests Tuesday morning and are allowed to practice under the NFL’s new, supplemental protocols, which are stricter than before. Of course, a positive test could easily come much later for the Chiefs, as we’ve seen with the Titans, who had two new positive tests on Tuesday after receiving two days of all negative tests.

We will keep you updated on this situation, as we now have multiple Week 5 games in peril of being rescheduled.
