Jaguars fans begin campaign to get Ravens DE Yannick Ngakoue to the Pro Bowl

Jaguars fans are passionate, and they’re showing it as they try and improve a fifth round pick to a fourth round pick!

The NFL opened Pro Bowl voting on Tuesday, and while the game is going virtual to Madden 21 this year, Pro Bowl voting is still important. The game itself has never been all that interesting, but the Pro Bowl vote has regularly impacted player contracts. Many player contracts include incentives and Pro Bowl nods can result in a bonus or salary boost.

The 2021 Pro Bowl vote takes on added significance for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings. Back in March 2020, then Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue tweeted that he wanted to be traded and did not want to sign a long-term deal with Jacksonville.

The team later placed the franchise tag on him, but then traded him to the Vikings in late August. The deal netted the Jaguars a second round pick in 2021 and a conditional fifth round pick in 2022. The latter pick could be upgraded to a fourth round pick if Ngakoue made the Pro Bowl this season and could be upgraded to a third round pick if he made the Pro Bowl and the Vikings win the Super Bowl.

One month ago, the Baltimore Ravens acquired Ngakoue from the Vikings for a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 conditional fifth-round pick. Notably, the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl language in the Jaguars-Vikings trade was not team-specific and thus transferred to the Ravens, per Adam Schefter. If Ngakoue gets to the Pro Bowl, the Vikings will owe the Jaguars a fourth round pick in 2022 instead of a fifth round pick.

Which brings us to the Pro Bowl vote. Ngakoue is having a solid season, but it probably would not earn him a Pro Bowl nod on its own. He made the All Star game in 2017, but has not since. Oftentimes there is a momentum that can carry some players to multiple Pro Bowls regardless of how they performed during the season. It’s about a player being high profile.

Enter Jaguars fans. A historically passionate fanbase, Jaguars fans have begun a campaign to get Ngakoue voted into the Pro Bowl so the Jaguars get the higher conditional draft pick. The fact that the pick is not until 2022 and is a day three pick doesn’t matter. It’s the principle of the thing!

So, if you want to help the Jaguars improve their draft position, head over and vote for the Pro Bowl roster. Vote early, vote often.
