The Cincinnati Bengals are making a change at the quarterback position for Week 12. Joe Burrow was lost to a season-ending knee injury in Week 11 and Ryan Finley replaced him to close out the game. The team promoted Brandon Allen from the practice squad following the game and is now planning on on starting Allen against the New York Giants on Sunday, per Mike Garafolo.
Allen entered the NFL in 2016 as a sixth round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was released ahead of the 2017 regular season and claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Rams. He spent two years with the team between their 53-man roster, injured reserve, and practice squad.
He was released at the end of training camp in 2019 and claimed off waivers by the Denver Broncos. He made three starts for the Broncos that year after Joe Flacco got hurt, completing 46.4 percent of his passes for 515 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Allen entered free agency after the 2019 season and signed with the Bengals where he eventually landed on the practice squad before this promotion. There’s little to differentiate Allen from Finley for purposes of fantasy football evaluation. Neither offers much upside.
