NBC will be making a change for this Sunday’s Week 15 Sunday Night Football broadcast. Mike Tirico will join Cris Collinsworth in the booth to call the Browns-Giants game. Normally Al Michaels would call the game, but he did not clear NBC Universal’s COVID-19 safety protocols. It is not clear if he tested positive or was a close contact of someone with the virus.
“I feel great, I have no symptoms, and my temperature this morning was 97.5. I look forward to returning to the booth as soon as possible,” Michaels said.
This will not be the first game Tirico has called in place of Michaels this season. Michaels is nearing retirement, and there has been a slow transition to cut down on his travel. Tirico replaced him in the booth for Week 3, Week 12, and Week 14. Michaels is expected back for Week 16 when the Green Bay Packers host the Tennessee Titans.
