The Denver Broncos have struggled in 2020, but missing the playoffs will not cost head coach Vic Fangio his job. Adam Schefter is reporting Fangio will not be fired and will return as head coach in 2021.
The Broncos are in the midst of problems with ownership as a family dispute has arisen following Pat Bowlen’s death. Schefter is hearing there is a belief Fangio brings stability, but also that he has had to deal with an assortment of injuries. The list is lengthy and most notably includes pass rusher Von Miller and wide receiver Courtland Sutton.
In two seasons as head coach, Fangio’s record is 12-18. Denver heads into Week 16 with a 5-9 record and tied with the Los Angeles Chargers for last place in the AFC West. They rank 30th in overall efficiency, including 16th on defense and 32nd on offense. Their remaining matchups are against the Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders, with no playoff implications for any of the teams.
