Breaking down the NFL standings coming out of Week 16

As Week 16 of the NFL season comes to a close, we break down the standings as the league starts to look to Week 17.

Week 16 is well underway with the early weekend schedule a wrap and now into the four-game 4:05/4:25 time slot. The NFC East and West could both be decided by the end of this slot, and then we wrap up with a fun Titans-Packers matchup on Sunday Night Football. Playoff positioning is going to be all over the place these next few hours.

We’ll be updating the standings throughout the rest of this afternoon, Sunday Night Football, and Monday Night Football.

AFC East

The Bills crushed the Patriots on Monday Night Football. The Dolphins beat the Raiders and can clinch a playoff berth in Week 17 with a win or a Ravens loss.

  1. Buffalo Bills, 112-3
  2. Miami Dolphins, 10-5
  3. New England Patriots, 6-9
  4. New York Jets, 2-13

AFC North

The Steelers beat the Colts to clinch the AFC North. The Ravens beat the Giants and the Browns lost to the Jets.

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers, 12-3
  2. Baltimore Ravens, 10-5
  3. Cleveland Browns, 10-5
  4. Cincinnati Bengals, 4-10-1

AFC South

The Titans lost to Green Bay and the Colts lost to Pittsburgh, so the division title comes down to Week 17.

  1. Tennessee Titans, 10-5
  2. Indianapolis Colts, 10-5
  3. Houston Texans, 4-11
  4. Jacksonville Jaguars, 1-14

AFC West

The Chiefs clinched the No. 1 seed with a tough win over the Falcons. The Raiders were eliminated from playoff contention with their loss to Miami.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs, 14-1
  2. Las Vegas Raiders, 7-8
  3. Los Angeles Chargers, 6-9
  4. Denver Broncos, 5-10

NFC East

The Giants lost to Baltimore, Washington lost to Carolina, and Dallas beat Philadelphia. Washington can clinch the division in Week 17 with a win over Philadelphia. If they lose, the winner of Cowboys-Giants claims the division.

  1. Washington Football Team, 6-9
  2. Dallas Cowboys, 6-9
  3. New York Giants, 5-10
  4. Philadelphia Eagles, 4-10-1

NFC North

The Packers rolled over Tennessee and can clinch the No. 1 seed next week. The Bears beat the Jaguars and are now in the NFC’s final wild card spot. The Vikings lost the Saints to be officially eliminated from playoff contention.

  1. Green Bay Packers, 12-3
  2. Chicago Bears, 8-7
  3. Minnesota Vikings, 6-9
  4. Detroit Lions, 5-10

NFC South

The Saints beat the Vikings to clinch the division title. The Bucs beat the Lions to clinch a wild card berth.

  1. New Orleans Saints, 11-4
  2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 10-5
  3. Carolina Panthers, 5-10
  4. Atlanta Falcons, 4-11

NFC West

The Seahawks clinched the division with a win over the Rams. The Cardinals lost to the 49ers on Saturday.

  1. Seattle Seahawks, 11-4
  2. Los Angeles Rams, 9-6
  3. Arizona Cardinals, 8-7
  4. San Francisco 49ers, 6-9
