New Orleans Saints have clinched a 2020 NFL playoff spot

The New Orleans are officially the first NFL team to have clinched a 2020 playoff berth.

Despite losing their future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees to multiple fractured ribs, the Saints have coasted into the playoffs once again with a win over the Atlanta Falcons and a loss by the Chicago Bears to the Lions.

The Saints go to 10-2 with three straight wins with Taysom Hill at the helm. Much like last season with Teddy Bridgewater taking over for Brees, Sean Payton has guided his team to wins under less than optimal conditions.

The Saints started their 2020 regular season with tough losses to the Raiders and Packers to go 1-2 through their first three games, but have been flawless since, despite losing all world wide receiver Michael Thomas for a big chunk of the season and of course Brees over the last three games.

Brees’ return isn’t known yet, but he will be back for the playoffs and at the moment, he and the Saints would get the lone bye week with the No. 1 seed. Their main competition to keep ahold of that lead will be the Packers, who get a good matchup on Sunday afternoon with the Philadelphia Eagles and hold the tiebreaker over the Saints. If they win on Sunday, they’d move to 9-3, just one game behind New Orleans.

Ahead of 2020 season, DraftKings Sportsbook posted the Saints at -385 to make the playoffs.
