The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with quarterback Ryan Tannehill on a four-year contract extension on Sunday. In doing so, the Titans removed themselves from the Tom Brady rumor mill that has slowly picked up steam. There was nothing concrete on the Brady-Titans front, but it was one of many rumors.
Another rumor that picked up steam but now appears to be dead is Brady tot he San Francisco 49ers. Pro Football Talk had been pushing rumors for some time that Brady and the 49ers were interested in each other. On Sunday, Mike Florio’s sometimes co-host on PFT Live, Chris Simms, reported on Sunday that the 49ers are out of the mix.
“It was Tom Brady’s No. 1 choice — was to go to San Francisco and be the starting quarterback for San Francisco 49ers. I don’t know what happened, but something in the last few days to my understanding, that the 49ers are out on Tom Brady and they will be standing pat with Jimmy Garoppolo as their starting quarterback.”
Simms thinks the Brady sweepstakes are down to the Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs make sense given Jameis Winston hitting free agency and a shaky quarterback product. Odds still seem good he returns to the Patriots, but with the free agency negotiation period set to start in less than 24 hours, we might get a taste of Brady negotiating with another team for the first time in his career.
