The Dallas Cowboys were expected to be aggressive in attempting to re-sign wide receiver Amari Cooper, and they clearly were not messing around. The team is expected to re-sign Cooper with a five-year, $100 million contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Cooper joined the Cowboys midway through the 2018 season, and he’s been critical to Dak Prescott’s own success. Both players have seen their numbers shoot up playing on the same team, and when Prescott eventually signs a big contract down the road, Cooper is likely to be a big reason for it. CBS Sports broke down the numbers midway through last season, and the splits are staggering.
Cooper is worth big bucks, but even without knowing the underlying figures, $100 million is eye-popping. The $20 million per year would be the second highest average per year behind only Julio Jones’ $22 million per year. However, with any deal we need to see what’s fully guaranteed, and what options might exist that afford the team the chance to get out earlier.
