The Carolina Panthers have been busy on the quarterback front this offseason. After signaling that Cam Newton was available for trade, they signed free agent Teddy Bridgewater and then XFL star P.J Walker. Now they have traded Kyle Allen to Washington for a fifth-round pick, per ESPN’s Jordan Schultz.
Allen started 12 games for the Panthers after Cam Newton’s injury, accumulating 3,322 yards passing (62 percent completion rate) for 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. His adjusted yards per attempt ranked 29th in the league and he eventually lost his job to Will Grier, who was also quite bad.
With Case Keenum gone, Washington needed some experience behind Dwayne Haskins and Ron Rivera is obviously a fan of Allen’s after coaching him in Carolina. As far as backups go, Allen isn’t going to rank high on the list, but he does have game experience and won’t completely wilt under pressure.
