The New Orleans Saints appear to be dedicated to Taysom Hill for the long haul. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, they are planning to place a first-round tender on the quarterback as he enters restricted free agency.
The tender is expected to be worth $5 million for the 2020 season. New Orleans is expected to re-sign him to a long-term deal before. The Saints will be able to match any offer sheet Hill gets and will receive a future first-round pick if he’s lured away by a competitor.
New Orleans is expected to give Drew Brees an extension ahead of the 2020 season. He’s a lock to start, and it appears like Hill could become the Saints’ primary backup quarterback now that Teddy Bridgewater seems likely to leave in free agency. Although Hill has only thrown for 119 yards in three NFL seasons, he could be in line to become a starter in the near future.
