UPDATE: The Seahawks confirmed the trade.

New York Jets safety Jamal Adams has wanted out, and he appears to be getting his wish. The Jets have worked out a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, according to beat writer Brian Costello.

Adam Schefter has followed up, tweeting that the trade is Adams and a 2022 fourth round pick in exchange for safety Bradley McDougald, and Seattle’s 2021 first and third round picks, and a first round pick in 2022.

Adams is playing on the fifth year option of his rookie contract and wanted to be traded if he could not finalize an extension with the Jets. There is no word yet if he will quickly negotiate a deal with Seattle, but given the draft pick compensation involved, one would think the Seahawks are prepared to pay up in a big way.

Seattle was headed into training camp at +225 to win the NFC East, just behind the -106 San Francisco 49ers. Seattle was +2200 to win the Super Bowl. Adams is a monster upgrade for the Seahawks secondary, and while it might not get them ahead of the 49ers in the divisional odds, it should move them significantly closer.
