New York Giants roster updates from training camp

NFL training camp is underway and rosters will be pared down to the 53-player maximum. We’ll break down the moves as the New York Giants sort out their roster decisions.

NFL training camp is under way and that means news will start flowing from each team. How that news will be distributed in the time of Covid-19 restrictions is still to be seen, but news will get out one way or the other. We’ll take that news and give you our fantasy and betting analysis. And that news and analysis, including roster moves, injuries, all the way to hype videos, will be disseminated right here, on this very page for the New York Giants.

The Giants upgraded their offensive line in the draft, which was probably their biggest problem last season when considering the interceptions and fumbles produced by rookie Daniel Jones. Jones worked on his fumbling issues in the offseason and should get some help from a better offensive line. There is talent there, but Jones will need to take a step forward and find more consistency for the team to contend this season.

Player News

High fantasy/betting impact

* Evan Engram avoids the PUP list. — July 31

Engram is still working back from his Lisfranc surgery on his foot, but avoided the PUP list and should be ready to go Week 1. He remains a high upside fantasy tight end.

Low fantasy/betting impact

* Signed CB Logan Ryan to a one-year, $7.5 million contract. — August 31

The Giants needed some veteran help in the secondary. Ryan will help, but he’s in the last stage of his career.

* Signed DBs KeiVarae Russell and Brandon Williams. — August 29

* Rookie S Xavier McKinney will undergo surgery to repair a fractured left foot. — August 26

The likely starting safety will miss 2-3 months.

* Giants sign K Graham Gano. — August 16
* Giants sign CB Ross Cockrell — August 9
* Activated LB Tae Crowder from active/non-football injury list

With Sam Beal opting out and DeAndre Baker being charged with four counts of robbery, the Giants needed to add a veteran presence in the defensive backfield. Cockrell is just average, but can eat up snaps.
