Pittsburgh Steelers roster updates from training camp

NFL training camp is underway and rosters will be pared down to the 53-player maximum. We’ll break down the moves as the Pittsburgh Steelers sort out their roster decisions.

NFL training camp is under way and that means news will start flowing from each team. How that news will be distributed in the time of Covid-19 restrictions is still to be seen, but news will get out one way or the other. We’ll take that news and give you our fantasy and betting analysis. And that news and analysis, including roster moves, injuries, all the way to hype videos, will be disseminated right here, on this very page for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers somehow managed to post an 8-8 record without Ben Roethlisberger in 2019, but ranked 31st in the NFL in passing yards. The lack of consistency under center hurt JuJu Smith-Schuster’s production, and James Conner’s injuries led to him putting up subpar numbers in 10 games. Pittsburgh appears to be primed to bounce back in 2020.

Player News

High fantasy/betting impact

*Signed TE Eric Ebron to a one-year contract

Ebron is one season removed from a career year and is much more of a consistent pass catching threat than Vance McDonald. If Ebron can be a reliable target for Rothlisberger, Smith-Schuster could benefit from attracting a little less attention. Ebron could add another layer to Pittsburgh’s passing attack to make up for the loss of Antonio Brown.

Low fantasy/betting impact

* Signed WR DeAndre Thompkins — August 30
* Signed WR Ray-Ray McCloud and Signed TE Kyle Markway — August 21
* Signed RB Wendell Smallwood to a one-year contract. — July 28
