Minnesota Vikings roster updates from training camp

NFL training camp is underway and rosters will be pared down to the 53-player maximum. We’ll break down the moves as the Minnesota Vikings sort out their roster decisions.

NFL training camp is under way and that means news will start flowing from each team. How that news will be distributed in the time of Covid-19 restrictions is still to be seen, but news will get out one way or the other. We’ll take that news and give you our fantasy and betting analysis. And that news and analysis, including roster moves, injuries, all the way to hype videos, will be disseminated right here, on this very page for the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings made a blockbuster trade over the offseason to send Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills for draft collateral. While that move made Adam Thielen the top target for Kirk Cousins, rookie wideout Justin Jefferson will also have an important role to play. Can Dalvin Cook follow up last year with another solid campaign? Will Kyle Rudolph be challenged by Irv Smith Jr. at tight end? Those questions still need to be answered.

Player News

High fantasy/betting impact

* Acquired DE Yannick Ngakoue from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a second-round selection in the 2021 draft and a conditional fifth-round selection in the 2022 draft. — August 31

The Vikings lost big pieces of their defensive line this offseason and very much needed to add some talent, which they have done here.

* DE Danielle Hunter has missed nine-straight practices due to “minor tweak.”

The Vikings defensive line has taken a beating this offseason. They need Hunter to help stabilize the defensive line.

* Justin Jefferson returns from the reserve/Covid-19 list.

This is big, as his versatility out wide will be important to Cousins’ production. Cousins is used to two players capable of exceeding 1,000 receiving yards, so Jefferson will have to learn fast. The receiving corps would look a little shaky without him.

Low fantasy/betting impact

* Signed LB Hardy Nickerson.
* Signed RB Tony Brooks-James.
* Claimed S Steven Parker off waivers from Miami Dolphins.
* Second-year linebacker Cam Smith will miss the 2020 season.

Smith won’t play due to a heart condition, but only appeared in five games as a rookie.
