How to watch, what to watch for Jets vs. Bills in Week 1

The New York Jets and Buffalo Bills face off in Week 1 to open the 2020 NFL season. We break down how to watch the game, odds for the matchup, key injuries, and notable fantasy football start/sit considerations.

The Buffalo Bills open their 2020 season hosting the New York Jets in Week 1. The Bills and Josh Allen put together a strong 2019, as they went 10-6 and got into the playoffs, but lost in overtime to the Texans. This season they will look to build off their success and go deeper in the playoffs, maybe overtaking the Tom Brady-less Patriots.

The Jets on the other hand were not good last season, but somehow managed to win seven games. So far in training camp, injuries appear to be a problem early on, as their two top outside receivers they acquired this offseason, Denzel Mims, and Breshad Perriman, can’t seem to get on the practice field.

Notable Statistical rankings (Football Outsiders)

Jets (2019): 18th vs. Pass, 2nd vs. Rush
Bills (2019): 5th vs. Pass, 18th vs. Rush

DraftKings Sportsbook odds

Jets: +6.5, +225
Bills: -6.5, -286
Total: 40.5

Pick: Bills

The Jets have been a mess all training camp. I would’t trust Adam Gase to watch my fern for over an hour. The Bills have improved while the Jets might have gotten worse this offseason. And they’re going to start Chris Hogan at receiver.

Fantasy football start/sit advice

Jets

Jamison Crowder, Wide receiver, $5,200

With Mims and Perriman getting little work in training camp, the odds look good for Crowder to easily see double-digit targets in Week 1. It isn’t the best matchup, but he should still be useful in all PPR leagues, which includes DraftKings.

Chris Herndon, Tight end, $3,300

Herndon has been the talk of camp as he is over his injuries from last season and making plays in practice. The team is high on him and with injuries decimating the receiving group, the targets should be plentiful.

Bills

Josh Allen, Quarterback, $6,500

Allen should continue to be a rushing threat while getting a top new receiver in Stefon Diggs to throw to. The Jets run defense is much better than their pass defense and that should hold true to start this season. Don’t be afraid to start Allen, but his upside is likely capped unless the Jets can find a way to push the scoring.
