The Houston Texans head into the 2021 offseason having created a mess of a situation. A year removed from trading their top wide receiver, the team continues to execute a plan that is causing franchise quarterback DeShaun Watson regular aggravation.
Watson wanted to have more involvement in the team’s head coach and GM hiring process following the firing of Bill O’Brien. Owner Cal McNair said that would happen, but by all accounts it has been limited at best. McNair claims he’s had discussions with Watson, but by numerous accounts, the team owner has ignored his star QB’s suggestions.
The Texans did not make the playoffs in 2020 and so their offseason is officially underway. Trade rumors are running rampant, even as the asking price is still unclear. The New York Jets are viewed by many as the franchise with the most assets available to swing a deal. The Miami Dolphins are reportedly high on Watson’s list. He has a no-trade clause which further complicates the situation.
We’ll be tracking all the news and rumors over the coming months as the Texans try and figure out what exactly they’ll do to fix this self-inflicted wound.
