Complete list of opponents for the San Francisco 49ers in 2021

The 49ers saw an early end to their injury-riddled season but have plenty of hope (and talent) for the coming year. We already have an early look at their 2021 opponents and offseason needs.

The San Francisco 49ers closed out their 2020 regular season with a 6-10 record, which resulted in a last place finish in the NFC West. Injuries were the dominant storyline in 2020. They lost pass rusher Nick Bosa and later Dee Ford to IR. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo injured his ankle midway through the season and finished the year on IR. Richard Sherman dealt with ailments that put him on IR for part of the season. The list seemed endless as the year progressed.

The 49ers head into the offseason with over 40 free agents to sort through including OT Trent Williams, CBs Richard Sherman and Jason Verrett, FB Kyle Juszczyk, and a host more. More notably, defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is likely to depart to become a head coach. Given how well the defense performed in spite of all the injuries, he could be the 49ers biggest loss this offseason.

The 49ers hold the 12th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and needs could be plentiful depending on how free agency goes. They need help at cornerback and offensive line, and they have a decision to make on Jimmy Garoppolo’s contract this offseason. They have limited salary cap space, but that could change depending on their approach to free agency.

2021 opponents

The 49ers will face their NFC West divisional opponents six times, half at home and half on the road. In addition, they draw matchups against all for teams from the AFC South and NFC North. The NFL is expected to add a 17th game to the regular season schedule that will feature an inter-conference matchup with a similarly placed team. The 49ers would face the AFC North.
