The New York Jets finished the 2020 season with the NFL’s second-worst record at 2-14 and in last place in the AFC North. For their efforts, they will be slotted to have the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Immediately after the close of the season, the team announced that head coach Adam Gase will not return in 2021.
The Jets are one of a few teams at the top of the NFL Draft who might be looking for their next franchise quarterback. This season, New York went with third-year quarterback Sam Darnold, who played well in stretches and was instrumental in the team’s only two wins.
That being said, the Jets still have various holes to fix on their roster and will be trying to find not only a new head coach, but also a new defensive coordinator. A few weeks ago, New York got rid of defensive coordinator Gregg Williams after a blown coverage against the Las Vegas Raiders led to a game-winning touchdown.
2021 opponents
The Jets will face their AFC East divisional opponents six times, half at home and half on the road. In addition, they draw matchups against all for teams from the AFC South and NFC South. The NFL is expected to add a 17th game to the regular season schedule that will feature an inter-conference matchup with a similarly placed team. The Jets would face the NFC East.
