Los Angeles Rams sophomore running back Cam Akers suffered a torn Achilles while training, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Akers was poised to be the lead back in a rejuvenated Rams offense, but unfortunately this news would end his season.

Brutal blow for L.A., which loses its leading rusher from last season a week before camp begins.
After trading away Jared Goff and first round picks for Matthew Stafford, the Rams appear ready to compete once again for the NFC West and a shot at the Super Bowl. This news doesn’t take them out of that race, but it hurts. Darrell Henderson will be next in line to start for the Rams.
There isn’t much depth in the Rams backfield after Henderson, with Xavier Jones and Raymond Calais next in line. Expect the Rams to add veteran depth to that backfield sooner than later. Some names out there are old Rams running back Todd Gurley, Adrian Peterson, and Duke Johnson. None of those names spark great confidence, so we could also see them add a back after teams with more running back depth let players go.
