New York Jets wide receiver Denzel Mims delivered with a much-needed impressive performance in a 12-7 victory over the New York Giants on Saturday. A second round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Mims has gotten off to a rough start to his career, and he could even be in danger of not making the team at the end of training camp. This is a huge preseason for his career.
Stats
Mims led the team with 51 receiving yards on three receptions with four passes thrown his way.
Analysis
While the stats do look good, he is still buried on the depth chart. Mims did not see the field early, which is obviously a concern especially in a preseason game. The Jets are not going to make the same mistake they did with Sam Darnold by not giving him talented options, and New York has some decent pass catching options for Zach Wilson. That’s great for him and this offense as a whole, but that’s probably not the best situation for Mims.
Fantasy implications
The Jets have some talented wide receivers on the roster during camp including Corey Davis, Jamison Crowder, Keelan Cole, and Elijah Moore. That is likely going to be the Jets’ top four options at receiver, so Mims is in a real battle for his tenure with New York. He will need to put together more solid games over the next two preseason games and impress the coaching staff during training camp because they do not appear confident in his ability to this point.
