The defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers dropped their preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals 19-14 in game where their starters merely dipped their toes in for a quick series or two before being pulled. Tom Brady was barely on the field in the first quarter before being immediately yanked after taking a sack, giving way for Blaine Gabbert, Ryan Griffin, and rookie Kyle Trask to take over at quarterback. Young backups who impressed included fourth-string running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn recording their lone touchdown of the evening and first-round linebacker Joe Tryon showing off his abilities as an edge rusher.
The Titans took care of business last weekend in a 23-3 victory over the Atlanta Falcons in a contest where none of their usual starters saw the field. Logan Woodside and Matt Barkley handled themselves well in quarterbacking duties by each throwing a touchdown while Mekhi Sargent took a bulk of the carries at running back in place of Derrick Henry.
