UFC returns to Kansas City and offers us a treat of a main event. Max “Blessed” Holloway looks to bounce back after his loss to Alex Volkanovski, while Arnold Allen looks to extend his undefeated streak on Saturday.
With the number of high-level fighters and potential finishes on this card, it’s going to be very difficult to find the optimal lineup in Reignmakers this week. I’m going to break down my top three purchases for DraftKings Reignmakers, as well as both sides of the main event.
The Studs: As always, our Reignmakers plays will be highlighted by the highest floor/ceiling combo fighters on the slate.
Rafa Garcia, RARE Floor: $12
A rare combination of high floor and ceiling, Garcia faces the elder statesmen Clay Guida at UFC Kansas City. Rafa Garcia has hit no fewer than three takedowns in each of his last five fights, and consistently scores 90+ points when he emerges victorious in his fights.
While Guida sent Scott Holtzman to his MMA retirement in his last fight, he’s not far away from laying the gloves down himself. I like being early to the decline on older fighters, and I’m not going to shy away this time. Give me the safety and upside of Garcia.
Billy Quarantillo, RARE Floor: $10
Currently alternating wins and losses, I’m predicting that Quarnantillo breaks the trend and hits his second straight win against Edson Barboza. While this isn’t a safe pick, it is one with high upside as Billy has 130+ point upside when he chases a finish in fights, and has only lost by Decision within the UFC. Barboza has only won 3 decisions since 2016, and profiles as a finish or be finished fighter. I like the poise of Quarantillo in this fight, and will take him at $10 here!
Gaston Bolanos, RARE Floor: $8
The Bellator highlight real makes his way to UFC as Gaston Bolanos is set to face 0-3 Aaron Phillips in his debut. Bolanos isn’t the most talented UFC fighter, but is certainly the better fighter in this matchup and has the highlight upside to be a very strong DFS and Reignmakers option this weekend. +120 to win by KO/TKO/DQ seems like a good bet, as I’ll be firing up Bolanos across DFS, sports betting, and Reignmakers this weekend.
Main Event: Max Holloway ($10) vs Arnold Allen ($3)
UFC is blessing us with a phenomenal main event, as Blessed Holloway takes on Almighty Allen.
Max Holloway is one of the most popular fighters in the promotion, and has been through the ringer, winning matchups against all time greats like Conor McGregor, Jose Aldo, Dustin Poirier. While he’s seen everything and hasn’t hit a wall yet, you have to think the miles start to add up on this future HOF’er.
And while the classic Cadillac is in the red corner, across the ring sits a brand new Aston Martin in Arnold Allen. While he’s 11-0 and hasn’t taken much damage, he simply doesn’t have the experience of Max, and has gas tank concerns in his first 5 round fight.
I don’t typically like sitting on the fence, but that’s exactly where I am for this matchup. Both guys are excellent fighters, and this one should be a spectacle worthy of its own PPV. Both men are viable in Reignmakers, as Holloway is one of the few fighters to score 200 FTPs and Allen can end a fight at any time. I like Max Holloway as the option here, but Allen could easily surprise and break the slate wide open in the main event.
