The 2021 Summer Olympics get started on Wednesday, July 21st in Tokyo, Japan. The Opening Ceremonies are not until Friday, but the first softball and soccer contests will kick off on the 21st.
It’s worth noting that will be the 21st in Japan, but the 20th in the United States. Tokyo is 13 hours ahead of Eastern Time in the United States, 14 hours ahead of Central Time, 15 hours ahead of Mountain Time, and 16 hours ahead of Pacific Time. We will all need to adjust our sleep schedules.
The last time the Olympics required a significant adjustment to the sleep schedule was the 2008 Beijing Games where it was 12 hours ahead from Eastern Time. We’ll do our best throughout the Olympics to eliminate any confusion regarding event times, but just in case, feel free to refer back to our guide here to make sure you don’t miss out on your favorite event due to confusion about the time.
Japan to Central Standard Time differences
*Please note that Japan Standard Time is 14 hours ahead of Central Standard Time. Ex: If it is Thursday morning at 2:00 a.m. in Tokyo, it is Wednesday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. in the Central time zone.
