Only one American team will compete in an event at the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday, July 22nd. Fresh off a 2-0 victory over Italy in their opening game, Team USA softball will be back in action against Canada in a game that will start Thursday at 9:00 a.m. in Tokyo, which is Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
USA Athletes to watch on Thursday
Pitching was certainly a strength for Team USA softball as you can see by the shutout with Cat Osterman throwing six scoreless innings with Monica Abbott closing it out with a scoreless frame. Osterman and Abbott are the only two remaining players from the 2008 team that won the silver medal the last time softball was in the Olympics.
Michelle Moultrie drove in the first run of the game with a single in the fourth inning, and Janie Reed hit a sacrifice fly the next inning for the other run for Team USA.
Haylie McCleney is one of the top hitters on the roster, and she could be the breakout star of this Olympics.
