Sportswriters across America rejoiced when the progeny of their chosen singer-songwriter hero, Bruce Springsteen, had his daughter Jessica chosen as part of the USA equestrian team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She’ll be riding a horse named Don Juan van de Donkhoeve, and while it’s not a muscle car from the Jersey Shore, we bet it has plenty of .. horsepower .. to compete for a medal.
No medals will be awarded on the day ahead of the opening ceremony, which will be broadcast live despite the time delay. In the past, NBC has said things like “we think it’s important to give context to the show” to give a reason why the IOC international feed wouldn’t be streamed directly as is literally every event in every sport at the Games online.
But instead we’ll have the staff of the Today show describing where Nauru is and that Northern Ireland is part of Great Britain, but only during the Games. So feel relief, someone will be there to explain the Olympics to you.
