The 2021 Summer Olympics got underway the morning of Wednesday July 21st in Tokyo, but the first medals were handed out the morning of Saturday, July 24th. We’ll be tracking every medal that gets handed out over the next two weeks.
The United States entered the Tokyo Olympics as the favorite to win the most medals, with the People’s Republic of China No. 2 on the odds board. On the first day of medal-winning events, China has jumped out to an early lead. The nation won gold in Women’s Épée Individual, 10m Air Rifle Women, and Women’s 49kg in weightlifting, while adding a bronze in 10m Air Pistol Men.
