The women’s stroke-play tournament at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics is officially underway. The first round teed off at 6:30 p.m. ET Tuesday evening and the second round will tee off at the same time on Wednesday evening. The gold medal will go to the tourney winner and it will run as a traditional four-round tournament.
Normally the four rounds of golf tournaments run Thursday through Sunday. That was the case for the men’s Olympic tournament last week, but the women’s tournament starts and ends a day earlier.
Sweden’s Madelene Sagstrom shot a five-under 66 in the first round to take a one stroke lead into Wednesday evening’s second round. USA’s Nelly Korda and India’s Aditi Ashok both shot -4 in the first round. Matila Castren (FIN), Jin Young Ko (KO), and Carlota Ciganda (ESP) are tied for fourth at -3.
Golf Channel is providing television coverage for the tournament, but you can also stream the entire tournament at NBCOlympics.com and on the NBC Sports app. Golf Channel will broadcast the second round from 6:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday until 3 a.m. Thursday morning.
Korda enters the second round as the betting favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook where she is installed at +340. Ko follows at +600m, then Korea’s Inbee Park at +700. although Sagstrom leads after one round, she’s tied for sixth best odds to win the gold at +1400.
