The 2021 Tokyo Olympics wrap up this weekend and the men’s basketball tournament will close with some familiar faces. The United States will face off against France in the gold medal game on Saturday August 7 at 11:30 a.m. Tokyo time. That is 10:30 p.m. ET Friday evening in the United States.
The game will air live on NBC and will air again on NBC Sports Network on Friday afternoon at 6 p.m. on replay. If you aren’t around a television for USA-France, a live stream will be available at NBCOlympics.com and through the NBC Sports app. You’ll need a cable subscription for access, so if you don’t have one, you can get a trial from YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV, AT&T TV Now, FuboTV, or Sling TV to stream the game.
USA vs. France, Gold Medal Game, August 6/7
How the USA got here: It wasn’t pretty for the US but the team is back competing for the gold. After struggling through an exhibition slate, Team USA blew a first half lead in their Olympic group play opener, losing 83-76 to this particular French squad. They bounced back with a 120-66 win over Iran and a 119-84 win over the Czech Republic. In the knockout stage, the US beat Spain 95-81 in the quarterfinals and beat Australia 97-78 in the semifinals. Kevin Durant has led the way for the US with 19 points per game and is second to Bam Adebayo (5.6) with 5.2 rebounds per game.
How France got here: France rolled in group play. After upsetting the US in the opener, the French beat the Czech Republic 97-77 and beat Iran 79-62 to sweep its way to the knockout stage. They beat Italy 84-75 in the quarterfinals and beat Slovenia 90-89 in the semifinals.
