Sunday Night Football takes a trip to the Meadowlands to see if the limping New York Giants, faced with the tough task of taking down the red-hot Browns, can keep pace in the NFC East. With some sides, totals and props being offered, here’s what jumps out to me on DraftKings Sportsbook for this game.
You’re absolutely out of your mind if you think I’m going to back the Giants, who weren’t good even before their starting quarterback was injured. This should be the night they are knocked out of postseason contention on the back of Colt McCoy. Cleveland ranks eighth in the NFL with 14.9 points per game in the first half this season, leading the league with 23 per game over the past three weeks. That type of offensive showing should be too much for the poor Giants — who have one of the weakest offenses in football — to keep up with. This number is far too short and presents probably a safer alternative to the -6.5 full-game spread. If you’ve got the bankroll, the -230 moneyline in the first half really isn’t all that hard to stomach, either, but the spread should hit.
I realize I just talked about how brolic the Browns’ first-half offense has been, but I think even if Cleveland’s offense explodes in this one the Giants won’t do nearly enough to hit this total. Just three Giants games have gone over this year, and they haven’t hit 20 points in three weeks. This is a slumping offense coming off a seven-point outing last week, and things won’t be easy against this pass rush. As a bonus, the Browns make their money by pounding the rock, and run-heavy offenses generally contribute to many unders.
Hunt has hit this total a whopping nine times this year, and has consistently been playing around half of snaps in the backfield this year. What’s more, the Giants have been giving up a boatload of yards to running backs this season, and there have been 13 different performances by running backs against them with at least three receptions. I envision Hunt being a pretty big part of this offense considering the mismatch he should have against this Giants linebacking corps.
