After treading water in the first couple articles, we finally broke through with a 3-0 day here on Wednesday. The first week of college hoops was insane, with a lot of tournaments going on during the day, and some big time matchups. Now things slow down a bit. I’ll be playing things pretty lightly on Thursday, but with no football going on, it’s worth diving into this college card on DraftKings Sportsbook.

I’m not big on laying big numbers in college hoops, but I do think the market is low on Virginia Tech this season, so I’ll bite on a slow day on the hardwood. The Hokies have been pummeling the competition in the first few games, including an eight-point victory over Villanova in OT. They are for real, and should have no issues breaking this one open against VMI. Credit to VMI, they’ve won a couple games against low level competition, but lost their one test to Penn State by 21. With PSU sitting at 61 in KenPom, 40 spots below VT, a quality top-25 team like this should get the job done by 30 points or so.
This one opened at 7.5, and with the line coming down, I’ll bite on the Gators. My only concern is that BC has gotten its feet wet this season, playing three games against quality competition. Despite losing to Villanova, the Eagles were tied at halftime, and then BC beat URI and barely lost to St. John’s. Meanwhile, Florida has played just one game, beating Army by just seven. Bottom line, the Gators are going to need to be much better in this game, but I think they will be. Futures odds on this team show us that there’s a lot more potential here than they’re getting credit for, and I think the market is pretty low on Florida compared to the ceiling. This is a step up from the last two games BC played.
Arizona State might be a little overrated, but it has a very solid veteran backcourt, and has been tested in some good games this year. ASU played in the Empire Classic and faced the same teams as BC, beating URI in the opener and then falling to Villanova in a relatively competitive game. Remy Martin leads a veteran backcourt for the Sun Devils, and will be by far the best player on the floor in this one. I expect him to take control and keep his squad in the driver’s seat. Cal is a pretty awful team this year, losing the opener by eight to Oregon State — who ranks 112th in KenPom. Cal hasn’t been tested since then, and without much star power, I expect them to fold in this one against ASU’s talent.
