A handful of English Premier League (EPL) games are on tap for Wednesday. Free-scoring Manchester City, who has scored five goals in consecutive Premier League games, hosts a struggling Bournemouth club. Bournemouth, who lost the first meeting 4-0, gave their supporters hope of remaining in the competition next season by beating Leicester 4-1 on Sunday. Elsewhere, two of the EPL’s most entertaining fixtures take place as Tottenham travels to Newcastle while Arsenal hosts Liverpool. Wolverhampton can move to within a point of the top four, which will be the final Champions League place after Manchester City’s successful appeal of their two-year European ban, which was lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Below, I will take a look at some bets that I think are worth considering for Wednesday’s EPL slate. Soccer fans can get in on the EPL betting action by downloading the DK Sportsbook app or heading over to the DraftKings Sportsbook website.
Manchester City looks for more goals against struggling Bournemouth
Bournemouth gave themselves a massive boost in their quest to stay in the Premier League by coming from a goal down to beat Leicester 4-1 on Sunday. The Cherries are going to have to produce another stunning performance if they are to stop free-scoring Manchester City, who has scored 10 goals in their last two EPL matches. City is scoring these goals without their leading scorer, Sergio Aguero, which makes it even more impressive.
Raheem Sterling (+380 to be first scorer) has scored four of those 10 goals, and Sterling has a very good habit of scoring against Bournemouth. He has faced them seven times for City and has scored in six of them. City is an overwhelming favorite to win this game and should win it comfortably. Could they win a third consecutive game 5-0 (+1300)? The home side has led at halftime in their last five league games played at the Etihad while Bournemouth, who has never beaten Manchester City in the 15 previous meetings, has not led at the interval in their last 10 EPL encounters. A win for Bournemouth will see them move on to 34 points with Watford and West Ham, who are currently outside the relegation zone.
Bet: Manchester City to win to nil (+102)
Burnley aims to spoil another party at home to Wolverhampton
Burnley’s chances of qualifying for European football next season are all but over despite becoming the first team to stop Liverpool from winning a league game at Anfield since January 2019. A draw at Liverpool extended Burnley’s unbeaten run to five and they have Wolves in their sights. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side remains in the mix to play Champions League football for their first time in their illustrious history. A Wolves win (-118) at Turf Moor will see Wolves move to within a point of Leicester, who occupies the fourth spot.
We shouldn’t expect too many goals in this fixture based on recent matches and historical meetings. Six of the last seven games between these two sides, including the first meeting earlier this season, have seen two goals or fewer scored (-190), which is a trend both sides are currently experiencing. In the last five EPL matches Burnley has played, including their last three at Turf Moor, the goals total has been under 2.5. In addition, six of Wolves’ last seven games, including their last three road games, have seen under 2.5 goals scored.
Burnley was moments away from taking all three points in the reverse fixture in August after Ashley Barnes gave the Clarets a 13th minute lead. However, Raul Jimenez equalized in injury time from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Erik Pieters.
Bet: Under 2.5 total goals (-190)
Newcastle hopes to dent Tottenham’s European aspirations
It says something about this fixture that it is regarded as one of the most entertaining fixtures in the competition. This will be the 50th time that Newcastle and Tottenham will face each other in the EPL, and the previous 49 encounters have produced 145 total goals at an average of 2.95 goals a game. The obvious bet that stands out is over 2.5 total goals (-118). However, it should be noted that four of the last five meetings have produced under 2.5 total goals (-106).
This is also a good time to highlight the fact there has never been a 0-0 draw (+1050) in any of their Premier League meetings. Tottenham, who has won four of their last five at Newcastle, needs the points more than the home side, who has already secured their place in next season’s competition. Spurs are in danger of missing out on European football next season, but a win in this fixture will boost their chances and keep the pressure on the sides above them. Tottenham has been too cautious in recent road games. They have not scored the first goal in their last eight away games and they have failed to score a first half goal in their last four away from the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
As for Newcastle, eight of the last 12 goals they have scored have come in the first half, while eight of their last 11 goals conceded have come in the second half. Newcastle has been tied at halftime in four of their last five EPL matches at St James’ Park, while Tottenham has been level at the interval in their last two.
Bet: Draw at half-time (+128)
Can Arsenal and Liverpool serve up another high-scoring thriller?
No Premier League fixture has produced more goals than when Arsenal and Liverpool lock horns. A total of 159 goals have been scored by these two clubs in 55 meetings at an average of 2.89 goals per game. While these sides like to play attacking football, there have been five goalless meetings in their Premier League series, with three of them coming at Arsenal’s Highbury and Emirates Stadium. Since the last 0-0 draw (+1500), seven of the eight meetings have seen over 2.5 total goals (-118) scored.
A good omen for Arsenal is the fact that the home side has not lost any of the last six meetings - winning four and drawing two. Scoring the first goal is something these two sides have a tendency to do. Arsenal (+133) has done so in their last six EPL matches, while newly-crowned champion Liverpool (-186) has opened the scoring in their last three matches. There could well be a late goal in this fixture. In the Gunners’ last seven EPL games, they have scored three times and conceded four goals in the final 10 minutes. The north London side also scored a consolation goal five minutes from time in their 3-1 loss to Liverpool earlier in the season. Arsenal has also scored in the first half of their last five matches.
Bet: Over 2.5 total goals (-118)
