The PGA TOUR makes its way to Minnesota for the 3M Open, just the second year the event has been in the PGA TOUR rotation. Matthew Wolff, last year’s winner, headlines a field that also includes Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Tommy Fleetwood and Tony Finau. The strength of the field takes a steep drop from last week, and the odds seem to have followed suit with the decline in overall talent.
Last season, Wolff eagled the final hole to beat out then less-bulky Bryson DeChambeau and capture his first PGA TOUR win, which may be what we see this week - a ton of scoring. Birdies or better gained, SG: Approach-the-Green and par 5 scoring will be essential at TPC Twin Cities, which is where we should start and end our betting cards.

Erik van Rooyen to Win +3500
Only four golfers hit it better with their irons last weekend than Van Rooyen, gaining four strokes through approach. A usual suspect on the European Tour, Van Rooyen should feel confident after last week’s solid performance and should bring more great ball-striking to this week’s 3M Open - a course he’s played a bunch during his college career at the University of Minnesota.
Doc Redman to Win +5000
No one has been better with the approach over the last two months than Redman. His value has decreased tremendously since seeing his odds regularly above +10000 in the first couple of tournaments back from the shutdown. Still, it doesn’t mean his number this week isn’t something to bet. Doc lost six strokes putting at the Memorial last week, which was his second worse since becoming a PGA TOUR pro. Although his putting hasn’t been great, he’s still finished with two top-21s and an 11th place finish since returning. His Tee-to-Green numbers have been incredible, and his tremendous ball-striking should mask his lack of short-game.
Sam Ryder Top 10 +750
Ryder has been a ball-striking and scoring machine over the last two months, ranking 14th in both SG: Approach-the-Green and Birdies or better gained. Before he grabbed a seventh at the Workday Charity Open, he missed the cut at both the Travelers and the Rocket Mortgage, although not by much. He carded a 66 in Round 1 at TPC River Highlands and missed the cut by only two, and shot four-under at Rocket Mortgage to miss the cut by one. Si Woo Kim is also +9000 and has been hitting it well, ranking 16th in approach at TPC River Highlands and sixth at Memorial last week.
Si Woo Kim Top 20 +400
Objectively speaking, Si Woo Kim is one of the best ball-strikers in the field, but the issue is pinpointing when everything clicks, which is why we see his odds to win near +9000 this week. The 2016 Wyndham Championship and The PLAYERS in 2017 are Kim’s only wins on the PGA TOUR. Both courses are very different but still involved great ball-striking in getting the job done. Kim shot a 60 in round 2 at Wyndham Championship the year he won, which is what he’ll need here. Maybe not that low, but he’ll need to keep on scoring like he has been, ranking fifth in birdies or better gained over his last four rounds.
