Showdown Strategy

Seattle Seahawks

This game features two of the best quarterbacks in these simulations, starting with Russell Wilson ($11,000), who is the most expensive player in this game. Wilson is averaging 22 DKFP, 208 passing yards and 49.6 rushing yards. This is one of those games where you’ll likely be looking to take both quarterbacks as they’re both a threat through the air and on the ground. Wilson has thrown 46 touchdowns through the air and rushed in 10, giving him a tremendous ceiling.

When looking to pair someone with Wilson, my eyes immediately lock onto DK Metcalf ($8,800). His salary has risen dramatically, as gone are the days when he was in the mid-$6k range. Now up to his highest salary of the sim season, Metcalf shares the fastest speed in this game offensively at 95, which is the same as Will Fuller ($8,000). Overall, he’s averaging 3.5 receptions for 53.6 yards and 12 touchdowns scored. Meanwhile, Tyler Lockett ($9,600), who is listed as the WR1 on this team, is averaging just 3.1 receptions, 47.5 yards and 15 touchdowns scored. The three touchdown difference doesn’t move the needle for me much here and if I had to choose, Metcalf would be my guy.

Will Dissly ($6,800) is a solid mid-tier option as well. He’s gone a few games without making a catch but still averaging 3.8 receptions, 42.2 yards and 11 touchdowns scored. Josh Gordon ($4,800) has been a total boom-or-bust option and quite frankly doesn’t offer much at his salary. I have a hard time trusting him, even in a good matchup. Gordon is seeing just 2.3 receptions and 33.4 yards per game with four touchdowns scored.

The only running back you want exposure to is C.J. Prosise ($1,000). Even if you’re not crazy about the player, he’s only $1,000, which is going to be MUCH needed salary relief in this game. Even at his basement pricing, Prosise is averaging 5.9 DKFP with 12.5 rushing and 17.8 receiving yards per game. He doesn’t have to do much at all to payback his salary, especially when you consider Chris Carson ($7,600) is averaging 5.1 DKFP at a much higher price tag.

Houston Texans

Deshaun Watson ($10,800) isn’t the most expensive player in this game but he does have the highest overall average at 22.4. Through 31 games, Watson is averaging 217.6 passing yards, 47.5 rushing with 54 touchdowns thrown and 10 rushed in. Like Wilson, his ceiling is sky high and if both quarterbacks can play to that potential, it’s going to be extremely hard to win much without them. You’re going to have to make some sacrifices to fit both of these guys in but someone like Prosise makes it much easier.

With Watson hogging the ball a lot lately, it’s been a negative effect on his receivers. DeAndre Hopkins ($10,000) is still averaging 16.2 DKFP overall, but it’s been more boom-or-bust than you’d expect. We’ve seen games where Hopkins makes nine receptions for 163 yards and we’ve seen games where he’s made two receptions for nine yards. In a game where you’re looking to take both quarterbacks, Hopkins is an extremely tough piece to fit in. With that in mind, this also could be an opportunity to get him at lower than usual ownership.

One player I am very interested in is Fuller at a $2K discount off Hopkins. As mentioned, he’s tied for the fastest speed in this game offensively at 95, is active in the red zone and has an enticing matchup. Keke Coutee ($1,600) is another way to pay down in this game but likely will come with high ownership. Coutee isn’t getting much volume but he doesn’t need to do much to pay off that low salary. Even without heavy volume, he’s much safer than Kenny Stills ($4,600), who has only made receptions in 11 games. He’s not even worth the trouble. Darren Fells ($5,400) is another player I’m not all that interested in taking, as he’s not seeing more than three receptions per game on a normal basis. It’s not bad production by any means but he’s a bit too expensive for me in this spot.

The Outcome

If you’re trying to use both quarterbacks, you’ll likely have to use them both in the flex to make it work. Sure, you can captain one and use guys like Prosise and Coutee in the flex, but you’re leaving yourself open to a potential bust if they don’t come through. Personally, I like taking DK Metcalf ($13,200) or Will Fuller ($12,000) here. I love the speed they have and the high probability of scoring if they get one deep.

Final Score: Seahawks 27, Texans 24
