Best Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for the PGA TOUR’s THE NORTHERN TRUST

Reid Fowler provides his top PGA TOUR bets for THE NORTHERN TRUST on DraftKings Sportsbook.

PGA: PGA Championship - Final Round Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs will be THE NORTHERN TRUST at TPC Boston. The majority of past winners have been the elite ball strikers on TOUR like Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy (twice), Webb Simpson, Tiger Woods and Adam Scott. There are also golfers like Rickie Fowler and Charley Hoffman who’ve won here, proving a wide variety of games can win at TPC Boston. As for golfers who have won during the FedEx Cup, the range is either golfers riding fantastic momentum at this time of year, like Billy Horschel and Chris Kirk in 2014, or golfers like Rory McIlroy, who has won five times during the playoffs and is tremendous tee-to-green.

For a full course preview and key statistics breakdown, refer to this week’s preview on DraftKings Playbook. Here are the bets we should be considering this week on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Patrick Reed to Win +2200

Reed has fixed his irons over the past two events, gaining through approach in both and is one of the best long-iron players ranking 33rd in proximity from 175 to 200 yards over the previous three months. Reed is coming off two solid performances at the PGA Championship and Wyndham Championship, where he gained an average of nine strokes total over the field.

Tony Finau to Win +3500

Finau comes to TPC Boston ranking 15th in SG: tee-to-green over his past 36 rounds. While his win equity isn’t that of the golfers priced similar to him, few have been hitting it better than Tony, who has gained an average of 5.6 strokes total over his past five tournaments. Finau isn’t known for his putting but getting him back on bentgrass is preferred given that he ranks 18th over the previous 12 rounds on that surface.

Tyrrell Hatton to Win +5500

Hatton’s putter has gone cold over his past two events, losing 7.4 strokes total. This was the reason he missed the cut at TPC Harding Park. The ball striking and irons were solid in San Francisco and hopefully his success at TPC Boston (12th in 2018) along with his stellar approach game gets him back in the winner’s circle this week. We shouldn’t be too worried about his past failings on the greens. Historically, Hatton’s been exceptional on the greens, ranking 27th in SG: Putting over the past three months and gaining 15.2 strokes total with his putter at the RBC Heritage and the Rocket Mortgage Classic, respectively.

Kevin Na Top 10 +750

Na has winning upside but it’s a tall task for him to beat out all the top-ranked golfers at TPC Boston. Still, he has the game to finish inside the top 10 here, especially given how well he’s striking with his irons and with his putting gaining just under three strokes on the greens. Na won’t be able to contend with Bryson or Rory off-the-tee but he’ll find solace leaning on his long irons this week, ranking 15th in proximity from 175 to 200 yards over his previous three months.
