UEFA Champions League Soccer Best Bets: Predictions to Consider on DraftKings Sportsbook for August 23

Charlie Mullan gives his best bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Sunday’s Champions League final.

The curtain comes down on this season’s Champions League campaign 426 days after the first qualifying games took place. Paris St-Germain is on the verge of being crowned champions of Europe for the first time in team history. But standing in Paris St-Germain’s way is five-time champion Bayern Munich. Here’s what stands out to me on DraftKings Sportsbook for Sunday’s final.

Paris St-Germain vs. Bayern Munich: Bayern to win and both teams to score (+210)

The smart money is on the German giants to be crowned champions of Europe for a sixth time but Paris St-Germain is not going to the Estadio da Luz just to make up the numbers. Bayern has been unstoppable throughout this tournament, winning all 10 of its matches and scoring 42 goals in the process.

A win on Sunday will set a new record of consecutive wins in the tournament’s history and their opponents are going to have to be at the top of their game if they are to deny the Bavarians. PSG will be encouraged by the fact that Bayern’s opponents have found a way to penetrate the defense and score against the Bundesliga champions in five of 10 games.

Stopping Bayern from scoring is something no team has done in the Champions League since Munich’s trip to Liverpool in February 2019. Even if PSG scores the first goal, Bayern has twice come from behind to win at Tottenham and at Olympiakos, so there will be no panic on the German side if they fall behind early. Looking at the attacking talent on display for both teams, it’s easy to think there will be at least one goal for each team.

Bayern got to the final by handing Barcelona its heaviest loss ever in the competition (8-2) but that win and the team’s 10-game winning streak will count for nothing if Bayern doesn’t get its hands on Europe’s elite club trophy. However, I can see the trophy deservedly being handed to Bayern after a sensational run in the competition.

Paris St-Germain v Bayern Munich: Robert Lewandowski to score last (+310)

Robert Lewandowski needs two goals to equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 17 goals in a single Champions League campaign. The Polish forward has scored 55 times this season with 15 of them coming in the nine European matches he has played. Lewandowski has scored in every match he has played this season and he will want to continue his goal-scoring spree in the final. In addition, his six assists are the most in this season’s tournament. Lewandowski and Gnabry have scored 24 of Bayern 42’s Champions League goals and either one or the other will surely punish PSG.

Gnabry has the knack of getting in the right position at the right time to score crucial goals and one more will get him to double figures. PSG has its own hitmen with Kylian Mbappe (6) and Mauro Icardi (5) sharing 11 of their team’s 24 goals scored. And don’t be surprised if a substitute comes off the bench to score for either side.

PSG subs have scored almost a quarter (6) of the team’s 25 goals while Bayern’s bench has scored seven times. I’m going for Lewandowski to score the last goal (+310) in this final, which he has done in three of his past four Champions League ties with 10 of his 15 goals coming between the 76th minute and full time.

Paris St-Germain v Bayern Munich: Bayern to score first and win (+148)

Okay, so I’m all in on Bayern to win. With 10 wins from 10, the team deserves to be crowned champions but you don’t always get what you deserve, especially in sport. I just think Bayern will be too strong for the French side and another bet that stands out for me is Bayern to score first and win (+148).

The Bundesliga champs are used to that game script having done so eight times in their run to the final, including each of their previous seven games. Incidentally, in the past five finals of the Champions League and 14 of the previous 20 finals played this century, the team that has scored first has gone on to win.

BTTS (-286) has also paid out in 70 percent of the 20 finals while over 2.5 total goals (-265) has landed 10 times. Extra-time has been required seven times since the turn of the century with the last time coming in the 2016 final between Real Madrid and Atletico which was eventually decided by penalties for the sixth time this century.

I’m expecting Bayern to make it eight consecutive Champions League games in which they score first and win and claim their second ‘Treble’ in their illustrious history.
