High-priced options
Novak Djokovic ($11,200)
Djokovic wasn’t at his best on Monday, but he came through Ricardas Berankis in straight sets 7-6, 6-4. He did participate in the Adria Tour during the lockdown before he tested positive for the coronavirus. It won’t be an easy comeback to the professional circuit but he is the world No. 1 for a reason. Tennys Sandgren ($4,000) beat Felix Auger-Aliassime on Monday in a third-set tiebreak, so they both don’t have much time to recover.
Daniil Medvedev ($10,000)
Medvedev was far too good for Marcos Giron on Monday, easing through 6-4, 6-4. His serve was quite efficient. He had eight aces and won 92% of his first-serve points, which ensured his opponent wouldn’t have a clean look at his serve in most games. Still, he was clutch when he was required to be, saving three out of three break points.
Elise Mertens ($9,000)
Mertens needed three sets to put away Kristina Mladenovic in the previous round. However, she was consistent right through. She won six games in each of the three sets. She served five aces and won 35 of 42 points on her first serve (83%). Her serve was so good, in fact, that she faced just two break points through the entirety of the match. That will hold her in good stead for Tuesday.
Other to consider: Aryna Sabalenka ($10,500).
Value flex options
David Goffin ($8,400)
Goffin has had some additional time to rest after his straight-sets win against Borna Coric in the first round. Jan-Lennard Struff ($7,000) was made to fight deep into the third set against Denis Shapovalov on Monday, which means he has less time to recover. Goffin is in good rhythm as was evidenced from the crushing defeat he dealt to a quality player in Coric.
Andy Murray ($6,900)
Murray steps up his game when he needs it the most. He was the unfavored underdog against the No. 5 seed Alexander Zverev on Monday, but pulled out his defensive best to come through in the third set 7-5. Milos Raonic ($8,300) will be a different type of opponent but Murray has one of the best returns of serve in men’s tennis currently, which could nullify Raonic’s biggest weapon.
Marton Fucsovics ($5,700)
Fucsovics is rapidly climbing the ATP rankings. He has developed his baseline game significantly, staying in points longer and outlasting many opponents. He had a solid Australian Open as well earlier in the year. He beat Grigor Dimitrov in a three-set match on Monday, which will fill him with confidence for this match.
Other to consider: Serena Williams ($8,000).
