We’re on to the fourth round of the US Open, better known to players as the second week! We’ve got plenty of talented players vying for spots in the quarterfinals, and two inspiring matches in Shapovalov–Goffin and Kerber–Brady. I’ve picked out the four bets I see the most value in on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Denis Shapovalov vs. David Goffin
Shapovalov played one of the matches of the tournament on Friday, coming from a break down against American Taylor Fritz at 5-3 in the fourth to take the match to a fifth set, and destroying him from there. It was reminiscent of his marathon match against Gael Monfils last year, when he erased a double-break lead in an electrifying fourth set and pushed the match to a fifth, which didn’t end up going his way. I bring that match up because despite the loss, it marked a turnaround for Shapo that season. His game was a bit lost, but after that match in New York he closed the season stronger than anyone on tour, going 14-5, winning a title in Stockholm and making the final of the Paris Masters.
He came into New York in a similar spot this season. Before the shutdown, he was lacking the confidence that is necessary with a game as big as his. In the Cincy Masters, he fumbled away a lead against Jan-Lennard Struff. On Friday, it appeared he woke up when Fritz was serving for the match, and I think he can take that momentum and build on it.
David Goffin was fine, but unspectacular against Krajinovic in the third round, losing a lot of his service games and struggling to dictate the match. If both players carry their form over from their Friday matches, it will be Shapovalov to come through, with ease. Goffin has folded in the face of power and aggression the past two weeks.
Jennifer Brady v. Angelique Kerber
A lot of people were out on Kerber coming into the tournament given her lack of play and a lot of unknowns regarding her form, but she’s quieted those concerns in a big way. The former World No. 1 faces one of the toughest outs on tour since the restart in Jen Brady, who brings a lot of power to the table in this matchup. I think this will be a tight, three-set match, and Kerber’s solid return game should keep her in it throughout. Back her and the over with confidence.

Borna Coric vs. Jordan Thompson
I am not sure how Thompson is still alive here, but his opponents have something to do with it. Coric earned every bit of his win over Stefanos Tsitsipas, serving incredibly well under pressure and surviving long rallies. He’s going to be more fatigued than Thompson, but the talent level isn’t that close here. The issues that have plagued Coric have always been consistency and mental lapses. When he puts it all together like he did against Tsitsipas, it’s a dangerous sight.
