The NBA is the Wild West right now given COVID-19 and the league’s health protocols, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t edges to be had. We had a disappointing 0-2 Friday card, with the Bulls blowing what looked like an easy winner. Let’s bounce back on Monday.
Follow along on Twitter — @julianedlow — for what we hope to be another great season, as some plays jump out late due to news, particularly in the player prop market. Here’s what jumps out to me on DraftKings Sportsbook.
The Bulls did us really dirty on Friday, losing in overtime after being up double digits most of the game, and up 11 with just under three minutes left. They bounced back very strong with a 16-point win over the Mavericks on Sunday, reminding us just how good they’ve been as a dog this season. The Bulls are just 5-8, but all five wins have been as underdogs. Even when they haven’t been winning games, the Bulls are covering, sitting at 9-4 ATS on the season. The Rockets are just 4-7 straight up and ATS, but the numbers don’t really matter on them. They are 1-1 since the James Harden trade, and now we’re going to see a brand new team on the floor. Christian Wood’s been playing out of his mind, but now will get back Eric Gordon and DeMarcus Cousins from injury, while Victor Oladipo is set to make his Houston debut. Not that more talent is a bad thing for Houston, but this is going to be a brand new lineup. I’ll take the underdog Bulls at home.
We’ve been riding this one all season. The worst part of Friday’s betting card was the Pistons postponing a game, meaning we couldn’t back his point prop. But he was right back at it on Saturday, posting a 24-9-6 line against the Heat. The streak continues — Grant is now 11-1 to the over on his point prop this season, cashing 11 in a row. In the same matchup against the Heat, and with Grant’s point prop rising to 22.5, I’ll play the three-way prop here. Grant is averaging 6.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists and has pulled down nine or more boards in three of his past five games.
Obviously, we’re looking at a pretty low number for a starting center, but it does matchup up with Lopez’s averages this season. Lopez has picked up the slack on the glass recently, though, finishing just one point shy of a double-double on Wednesday, and then earning the double-double bonus on Friday — he pulled down 11 rebounds in each game. The matchup against the Nets should leave plenty of boards to be had in this game, with a total flirting with 240. The Nets are one of the worst teams in the NBA defending centers and outside of DeAndre Jordan, who doesn’t play much, have no bodies to throw on Lopez in the paint. At such a modest number in a fast-paced game, I like the over.
