After two weeks in Hawaii, the PGA TOUR had its first event of 2021 on the mainland last week, and Si Woo Kim ($8,900; +3500) held on for a one-shot victory at PGA West over a hard-charging Patrick Cantlay, who fired an impressive 11-under but came up one shot short of catching Kim, who claimed his first victory on the PGA TOUR since 2017. He took the lead for good with a long birdie putt on the picturesque island green at No. 17 known as “Alcatraz,” and then he made a two-putt par on No. 18 to seal his victory.
Si Woo Kim claims another Stadium.

The PGA TOUR continues the West Coast swing this week and steps back into a larger spotlight on the sports scene with no NFL to contend with on Sunday this weekend. The tour will be back on CBS for the weekend, and it’s a great tournament to tune back in for since some of the biggest names in golf will be teeing it up this week at the historic, well-known and always beautiful Torrey Pines Golf Course for this year’s edition of The Farmers Insurance Open. Everyone will turn their attention back to Torrey Pines later this year for the U.S. Open, scheduled to take place June 14-20. While that event will take place entirely on the South Course, this tournament will split the field for the first two rounds with each player logging one round on the South Course and one round on the easier North Course.
The field will be looking to use this event as a tuneup for that major championship later this year, but this event comes with quite a bit of weight of its own having taken place every year but one dating back to its inception as the San Diego Open back in 1952 and often attracting the biggest names in golf. This will be the strongest field we have had so far in 2021 and is expected to be headlined by Jon Rahm ($11,300; +710), who was forced to pull out of last week’s tournament with a bad back, and Rory McIlroy ($11,000; +875), who will be making his first PGA TOUR appearance of 2021. Jason Day ($8,600; +3500) is another big name teeing it up for the first time this calendar year, and he is a two-time winner on this track.
Last year, Marc Leishman ($8,700; +4150) beat out Rahm by one stroke while McIlroy and Brandt Snedeker ($7,000; +16000) finished two strokes back tied for third. Snedeker has won this event twice in his career as well with Rahm claiming his own Torrey Pines win back in 2017. This course typically rewards tactical, approach-focused golfers who can put together strong, consistent play from tee-to-green. It’s typically a very fair test and usually ends up with some of the most proven overall golfers at the top of the leaderboard. Newcomers and “grip-and-rip” bombers have struggled historically at this venue due to its difficult fairways and penalizing rough.
Rahm is now the betting favorite this week on DraftKings Sportsbook, and is a strong favorite due to his course history at this event. Rory is just behind him followed by Xander Schauffele ($10,400; +1200), who has struggled here in the past with just a T25 and five missed cuts in six career appearances.
DraftKings is offering a number of ways you can get in on the golf action, starting with the PGA TOUR $1M Pitch & Putt [$250K to 1st] event.
