Fantasy Basketball Picks: Top DraftKings NBA DFS Lineup Strategy for Trail Blazers vs. Bulls Showdown on January 5

Mike Barner gives his top NBA lineup advice for Tuesday’s fantasy basketball Showdown contest on DraftKings between the Trail Blazers and Bulls, which starts at 10:30 p.m. ET.

NBA: Portland Trail Blazers at Golden State Warriors Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

We’ve seen plenty of blowouts across the league this season and we have the potential for a few more on Tuesday. One of them could come with the short-handed Chicago Bulls facing the Portland Trail Blazers on the road. This game is also the featured Showdown contest on DraftKings, so let’s discuss some players to consider as you work your way through the options.

SHOWDOWN STRATEGY

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Chicago Bulls

Captain’s Pick

Damian Lillard ($17,100 CP): Coby White is not a good defender and Tomas Satoransky (COVID-19) is still out for the Bulls, so slowing down Lillard in this game is going to be a tall order. He’s already been at the top of his game lately, scoring at least 43.5 DKFP in four of the last five contests. While his hefty salary at this spot will do a number on your budget, it’s difficult to find a player who has a higher upside in this matchup.

Zach LaVine ($14,400 CP): If the Bulls are going to keep this game close, LaVine is going to need a monster performance. He carried their offense in a win over the Mavericks on Sunday, scoring 39 points on 25 shot attempts. He also chipped in six rebounds, five assists and three steals, leaving him with a stellar all-around performance. The Blazers have allowed an average of 119.3 points per game, which leaves LaVine with the potential for another juicy stat line.

FLEX Plays

Otto Porter Jr. ($8,200): Porter has moved into the starting lineup over the last three games and has averaged 17.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and two steals in that role. Not only is Satoransky out for this game, but so is Lauri Markkanen. His absence should afford plenty of playing time for Porter, as well as additional scoring opportunities along the way.

Enes Kanter ($6,600): Kanter never seemed to fit with the Celtics last season. He’s not a very good defender, which probably contributed to him averaging only 17 minutes a game. Now back with the Blazers, he’s averaged 21 minutes out of the gate. He’s one of the most productive players in the league on a per-minute basis, so he’s been able to turn his expanded role into averages of 12.5 points and 9.2 rebounds. He should at least be a double-double threat once again.

Daniel Gafford ($3,600): There was hope that a new coaching staff would be able to unlock Wendell Carter Jr.’s ($7,000) talent. That hasn’t happened in the early going, though, and his playing time is already starting to decline. Over their last three games, he didn’t log more than 25 minutes in a single contest. Gafford has seen more playing time as a result, which enabled him to score at least 16.3 DKFP in all three of those contests. At such a cheap salary, adding him to your entry also helps offset some of the hefty salaries for the top guards on both teams.

Fades

Robert Covington ($6,200): The Blazers don’t need Covington to have a big role within their offense. They want him to play defense and help stretch the floor. The result has been an average of six points per game and a usage rate of 10.2 percent out of the gate despite averaging 31 minutes a night. There’s no reason to believe that his role will change in this contest.

The Outcome

It’s difficult to envision a scenario in which the Bulls win this game. They struggle to slow down opposing guards, so having to face Lillard and CJ McCollum ($10,200) could get ugly quickly. Their depth is also a problem with Markkanen and Satoransky out while the Blazers have arguably one of their deepest rosters in recent memory. Look for the Blazers to win this one in convincing fashion.

Final Score: Trail Blazers 127, Bulls 118
