Happy Hump Day! We have a tasty nine-game NBA slate to pick from tonight, and with teams like the New Orleans Pelicans and Brooklyn Nets dealing with back-to-backs, we can pick some values from the benches of tired teams for your DraftKings lineups. We’re already running through some lower-cost options, but more could be available later on in the day with injury news coming in, so be sure to follow @dklive on Twitter and download the DK Live app to stay up-to-the-minute with all the latest news leading up to tipoff. We’ll let you know who should see an uptick in minutes.
There are plenty of high-profile, high-priced options that are worth considering at the top of the salary structure, but you’ll need to balance out some of those hefty salaries with some cheap plays as well. Check out these four players who seem primed to outproduce their minimal salaries based on form, matchup and expected workload.
SG/SF Luguentz Dort, Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Los Angeles Lakers, $4,400
It seems borderline impossible, but in what was a tribute to Tony Snell, Lu Dort managed just 12.25 DKFP in OKC’s last game against the Lakers despite playing a ridiculous 38 minutes. With the same injuries plaguing the Thunder on Wednesday against those same Lakers, Dort should get all the run he can handle for a shallow backcourt, and his shooting numbers should fall back in line with his season average. At this price, it’s very difficult for Dort to miss value if he’s afforded this many minutes. He’s taken 10.5 shots on average over the past two games, accenting how important he is to this offense.
SF/PF Yuta Watanabe, Toronto Raptors at Washington Wizards, $3,000
The Wizards have been one of the five worst rebounding teams this season, pulling down just 48.5% of available boards, and they’re allowing nearly 10 per game to opposing small forwards. Watanabe, whose greatest fantasy contributions this season have come in the rebounding department, has worked himself into a steady role in Nick Nurse’s rotation with OG Anunoby out, playing 16 minutes last game. With Anunoby once again questionable, Watanabe should get another shot to showcase his talents, and might provide us with the last chance to roster him for the foreseeable future.
SF/PF Doug McDermott, Indiana Pacers at Brooklyn Nets, $4,800
We’re attacking the Nets game with Brooklyn playing on the second night of a back-to-back, but not for the reason you may think. The Nets have given up the third-most points per game to opposing small forwards with 23.3 on average, and have watched threes fall at a 38.7% clip over the last five games. Dougie Buckets has seen north of 30 minutes per game at the small forward position. This bad Nets defense will now collide with fatigue to create a ripe opportunity for DKFP, and I think McDermott is well-positioned for a 35+ DKFP night at a low cost.
SG/SF Caleb Martin ($3,300), Charlotte Hornets at Memphis Grizzlies
Devonte’ Graham is slated to miss his third straight game, and in his absence Martin has been seeing plenty of run off the bench, along with Malik Monk ($5,000). Both are great plays here, but I like Martin at the $1,700 discount. The Grizzlies have been notoriously awful at checking opposing small forwards, due in large part to Dillon Brooks, and Martin has seen at least 26 minutes at the position on two occasions in the last three games. He’s been somewhat of a stat-sheet stuffer while he’s been on the floor, contributing in every single column, so I think he’s a pretty great way to get some value out of a punt in a great matchup.
