Fantasy Basketball Picks: Top DraftKings NBA Snake DFS Strategy for February 19

Alex Hunter breaks down Friday’s DraftKings NBA Snake contest, which locks at 7:00 p.m. ET.

We get a nine-game NBA slate to attack tonight and if you haven’t by now, you need to check out DraftKings’ new Snake Draft format! Below, we break down some of the best targets for tonight’s DraftKings NBA Snake slate.

Favorable Early Round Targets

Giannis Antetokounmpo, F/C, Milwaukee Bucks

NBA Snake Rank: 2

Following last night’s home loss to the Raptors, the Bucks have now lost five in a row. This is the second longest active losing streak in the NBA and while they might not want to do it, considering this is the Bucks’ second contest in two nights, Antetokounmpo will have to play big minutes Friday vs. the Thunder to ensure a victory. During this slump, the superstar has logged 37.1 minutes per game. A year ago, Antetokounmpo only averaged 30.3 minutes during his second straight MVP season.

Unsurprisingly, as one of the best fantasy assets of all time, the forward has scored 67.25 DKFP per game over these five losses. Overall, in the 14 contests that Antetokounmpo has cracked the 35-minute threshold this season, he is contributing 63.9 DKFP. No disrespect to Nikola Jokic, who is the #1 player in the pre-draft rankings for tonight, but Antetokounmpo is the top overall option of Friday’s nine-game slate.

Devin Booker, G, Phoenix Suns

NBA Snake Rank: 16

Booker gets a near perfect matchup vs. the Pelicans tonight. So far this year, they rank 28th in defensive efficiency and have given up the 3rd most DKFP per game to opposing shooting guards. The Suns have been struggling on the defensive end as well recently, sitting at 20th in defensive rating across their last ten, and this Western Conference clash carries a 230.5 point O/U game total and small spread of 2.5 points on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Everything is working in Booker’s favor tonight and he has a ceiling north of 50 DKFP in this spot. Plus, the 24-year-old has mostly been a forgotten man this season and I suspect we can get Booker later than this pre-draft ranking.

Early Round Player to Avoid

Ben Simmons, G, Philadelphia 76ers

NBA Snake Rank: 10

This is a plus spot for Simmons, going against the Bulls, who rank 21st in defensive efficiency, but he is not worth his high draft rank. His current price is inflated after his 74.75 DKFP explosion vs. the Jazz on Monday, but this high score came with Joel Embiid (back) out of the lineup. With the center being scratched right before tip, Simmons’ usage rate hit season-high 38.6% against Utah. Embiid isn’t on the injury report for tonight and when Simmons has played alongside the big man this season, his usage rate has been at a modest 19.6%.

Also, the Sixers will be at home where they have dominated this year with a 12-2 record, and they are nine point favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook. A blowout that could limit Simmons’ playing time is absolutely possible, and I would let someone else chase his performance against the Jazz tonight.

Late Round Fliers

Jonas Valanciunas, F/C, Memphis Grizzlies

NBA Snake Rank: 31

Outside of one dud vs. the Pelicans, Valanciunas has been exceptional since returning from his self-isolation due to the NBA’s health protocols. Even when we include that low 17.75 DKFP score against New Orleans, the center is amassing 40.1 DKFP per game in his last seven.

Tonight, Valanciunas and the Grizzlies will host the Pistons, who rank 20th in defensive efficiency. More importantly, they are yielding the 10th most rebounds and the 6th most points in the paint per game. Centers are producing DKFP against this defense at the 7th highest rate in the league and Valanciunas should achieve a double-double of at least 40 DKFP against this soft interior defense.

Norman Powell, G, Toronto Raptors

NBA Snake Rank: 54

Kyle Lowry (ankle/thumb) was out last night and the guard will sit again Friday. Powell remained a starer with Lowry missing from action Thursday and was outstanding, putting up 44 DKFP across 31 minutes in the win vs. the Bucks. This marked the 4th time Lowry has been out this year and Powell is now averaging 34.4 DKFP without his point guard.

In addition to the expanded role, this is a juicy spot for Powell, meeting a Wolves defense that is allowing the 2nd most DKFP per game to opposing small forwards in 2020-21. The underrated wing is playing with a ton of confidence right now and I absolutely love the value he presents at his low draft ranking.

Saddiq Bey, F/C, Detroit Pistons

NBA Snake Rank: 73

A week ago from today, Bey torched the Celtics for a career-high 50 DKFP. The following morning, the news broke that Blake Griffin will be away from the team until the Pistons find a trade suitor for the veteran. This solidified Bey with a starting role going forward and since Griffin has been absent, the rookie has supplied 32 DKFP with 35 minutes per game as the Pistons’ starting small forward.

Now for Friday night, Bey finds himself in the top matchup for a small forward this season against the Grizzlies. No defense has surrendered more DKFP to the position than Minnesota and they also rank 6th in pace. Bey should be very active playing at a faster speed than usual and the rookie’s success should continue with at least 30 DKFP on Friday.
