Fantasy Basketball Picks: Top DraftKings NBA DFS Lineup Strategy for Warriors vs. Celtics Showdown on February 2

Mike Barner gives his top NBA lineup advice for Tuesday’s fantasy basketball Showdown contest on DraftKings between the Warriors and Celtics, which starts at 10:00 p.m. ET.

NBA: Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Among the six games in the NBA on Tuesday is a matchup between the Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors. Both teams haven’t exactly stormed out of the gates with the Celtics entering this matchup at 10-8, while the Warriors are 11-9. They will both look to avoid falling further towards .500 in a game that is also the featured Showdown contest on DraftKings. Let’s discuss some players to consider for your entries.

Golden State Warriors vs. Boston Celtics

Captain’s Pick

Stephen Curry ($18,900 CP): The big news surrounding this game is that Marcus Smart (calf) will be out for the Celtics. He’s expected to miss at least two weeks after suffering his a calf strain on Saturday. That means the Celtics won’t have their best defender to try and slow down Curry, who is averaging 27.7 points a game. On top of that, he’s averaged 5.4 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.2 steals, making him one of the safest options on either team to fill the Captain’s slot.

Jaylen Brown ($15,600 CP): Brown broke out for the Celtics last season, averaging 20.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists a game. He’s been even better to start out this season with averages of 27.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists. The Celtics have a very shallow roster and will now be without Smart, so they will have to rely on Brown for even more scoring moving forward. With the Warriors playing at the third-fastest pace in the league, Brown should receive plenty of opportunities to contribute in multiple areas.

UTIL Plays

Jayson Tatum ($11,400): Rolling with Brown in the Captain’s spot instead of Tatum allows for a little more flexibility for your lineup. However, given some of the cheaper value plays that we’ll discuss momentarily, a case can be made for also deploying Tatum in tandem with either Curry or Brown. He certainly has an incredibly high floor, averaging 45.5 DKFP per contest.

Kevon Looney ($3,200): After coming off the bench to begin the season, Looney has started each of the last four games for the Warriors. While he didn’t log more than 23 minutes in any of those games, he did score at least 19.5 DKFP two times. There is the potential that he will play more in this contest with James Wiseman (wrist) out, so he could provide value given his cheap salary.

Aaron Nesmith ($1,800): Working our way even further down the salary scale brings us to Nesmith, who was selected 14th overall in the 2020 Draft. He’s only averaged 13 minutes a game so far, but he should be forced to play more in this contest with both Smart and Payton Pritchard (knee) out. Although Jeff Teague ($5,600) is the more established player, he hasn’t performed well, so taking a chance on the significantly cheaper salary of Nesmith could be beneficial, especially with what other opportunities he opens for your budget.

Draymond Green ($6,600): It’s getting ugly for Green, who is basically an afterthought on the offensive end. He has a measly 7.2 percent usage rate, which has led him to average 4.8 points a game. He’s only averaged 22.3 DKFP per contest for the season, so it doesn’t make a lot of sense to take a chance on him given that his salary doesn’t come at much of a discount. If you do roll with him, it makes deploying the trio of Curry, Brown and Tatum very difficult, especially if one of them is in the Captain’s spot.

The Outcome

This game being at home helps the Warriors. They are 8-4 there this season, compared to 3-5 on the road. Both of these teams don’t have great depth, but the tandem of Tatum and Brown is lethal and the Celtics do at least have Kemba Walker ($9,200) back. This has the makings of a close contest, but look for the Celtics’ star duo to help them improve to 6-5 on the road.

Final Score: Celtics 115, Warriors 110
