Favorable Early Round Targets

Zach LaVine, G, Chicago Bulls

NBA Snake Rank: 6

After seeing his minutes dip in the blowout win over the Rockets on Monday (37.25 DFKP in 32 minutes), LaVine should bounce back tonight in a big way against his former team. The Wolves have been a terrible defensive club this season, ranking 22nd in defensive efficiency and they have allowed the most DKFP per game to opposing shooting guards across their last ten. Before the easy win Monday, LaVine was supplying 52.5 DKFP in his previous eight. The absences of Lauri Markkanen (shoulder) and Otto Porter Jr. (back) in all of these games has pushed LaVine’s usage rate to a tremendous 36.7% and both forwards will remain inactive Wednesday.

Even though it has been years since he was in Minnesota, LaVine will want to put on a show against his former club tonight, and I am expecting nothing less than 50 DKFP from the first time All-Star.

Bam Adebayo, F/C, Miami Heat

NBA Snake Rank: 10

Adebayo has been a model of consistency as of late. In his past six, the versatile big man has amassed 46.5 DKFP per game, scoring over 40 DKFP in every start. After dropping three in a row, the Heat have won three straight with Adebayo playing 36.2 minutes per game, and the high playing time should maintain in this close tilt vs. the Raptors.

With Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol both taking their talents to Los Angeles this past offseason, Toronto has struggled inside, surrendering the 10th most DKFP per game to opposing centers. Adebayo is an extremely safe target in the early rounds of snake drafts tonight, and with nine games on the schedule, I suspect he will be available a little later than his pre-draft ranking.

Early Round Player to Avoid:

Terry Rozier, G, Charlotte Hornets

NBA Snake Rank: 24

Rozier has been a stud, averaging 41.1 DKFP for the month of February, but he hit a huge wall on Monday in Utah. Fresh off three straight outings of over 50 DKFP, Rozier met the Jazz and their #2 ranked defense, and the stout unit held him to only 19.25 DKFP. The Hornets will continue their west coast trip tonight and things don’t get any easier for Rozier, going against Chris Paul and the Suns.

Even at 35 years old, Paul ranks 4th in real defensive plus/minus for point guards this season, and he and this Phoenix defense are giving up the 5th least DKFP per game to opposing point guards in 2020-21. Rozier’s pre-draft ranking is just too high right now and he is an easy fade for me tonight.

Late Round Fliers:

Jarrett Allen, F/C, Cleveland Cavaliers

NBA Snake Rank: 27

The post Andre Drummond era in Cleveland has been a dream for Allen. As the Cavs’ primary center with Drummond gone from the team in these past five, Allen has produced 43.2 DKFP with 33.1 minutes per game. Last night, the 22-year-old recorded his fifth straight double-double with 45.5 DKFP in the win over the Hawks.

Allen has earned over 30 minutes in three straight and considering that the Cavs just picked up their first victory in ten games last night, it’s safe to assume the former Net will log 30+ minutes tonight against the Rockets. With DeMarcus Cousins just being released and Christian Wood (ankle) still sidelined, this Houston team doesn’t have a true center left on their roster. They started the 6’5” P.J. Tucker at center Monday and we saw the underachieving Wendell Carter dominate them for 45.75 DKFP in only 28.5 minutes of action. Allen has 20/20 upside against this understaffed front-court and I will be pursuing him as early as the top-20 tonight.

Dejounte Murray, G, San Antonio Spurs

NBA Snake Rank: 31

The Spurs are the most recent team to run into a COVID-19 outbreak and tonight they will be without DeMar DeRozan, Keldon Johnson, Derrick White, Rudy Gay, Devin Vassell and Quinndary Weatherspoon. LaMarcus Aldridge (hip) is also questionable, but even if the veteran suits up, he may be limited, and the Spurs will only have ten healthy players.

Their offense is going to run through Murray and his usage should reach a new season-high tonight, and it’s hard to imagine the 24-year-old not seeing 35-40 minutes. The matchup is also favorable for him, going head-to-head with a Thunder defense that has yielded the 4th most DKFP per game to opposing points guard so far this season. In his last start, Murray posted 55.5 DKFP against the Hornets, and he brings similar upside tonight with a massive weight on his shoulders.

Jae’Sean Tate, F/C, Houston Rockets

NBA Snake Rank: 60

Opposite Allen, Tate is also an appealing target tonight. As previously mentioned, the Rockets are extremely thin up front and with Cousins and Wood both missing Monday, Tate tallied 31.5 DKFP in 31 minutes against the Bulls.

By default, they had to use the rookie at center for plenty of this contest, and naturally, Tate collected a career-high eight rebounds in the loss. He is a threat for a double-double tonight vs. this Cavs defense that ranks 25th in defensive efficiency, and Tate is a rock solid late round flier that should provide over 30 DKFP.
