Mike Barner gives his top NBA lineup advice for Thursday’s fantasy basketball Showdown contest on DraftKings between the Bucks and Pelicans, which starts at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Minnesota Timberwolves v Milwaukee Bucks

Among Thursday’s six-game slate is an exciting matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and the New Orleans Pelicans, two teams who aren’t short on big names. This game is also the featured Showdown contest on DraftKings, so let’s discuss some players on both squads to consider for your entries.

Editor’s note: D.J. Augustin (personal) and Jrue Holiday (health protocols) have been ruled out Thursday vs. the Pelicans.

SHOWDOWN STRATEGY

Captain’s Pick

Giannis Antetokounmpo ($18,300 CP): Whenever the Bucks are playing in a Showdown contest, Giannis has to be one of the top options for the Captain’s Pick. His 33.5 percent usage rate is the fourth-highest mark in the league, which leaves him with an incredibly high floor in the scoring department. Also, he has robust averages of 11.8 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks. It doesn’t matter in DFS that he’s only shooting 65.9 percent from the free-throw line, so if you can squeeze him into your budget, he should once again thrive.

Zion Williamson ($14,700 CP): If you’re looking to go with a more balanced entry, then Williamson should also be considered for this spot. After being somewhat eased into the league last season, he’s averaging 33 minutes per contest this season. The result has been averages of 25.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists. He’s been extremely consistently lately, scoring at least 44 DKFP in six of his last seven games.

FLEX Plays

Lonzo Ball ($7,400): There’s a chance that the Pelicans could move on from Ball as the trade deadline approaches. He’s nearing free agency and they have capable young guards behind him. While they may be looking to move him, his role right now remains unchanged. He plays a lot of minutes and is one of the main facilitators of their offense. He’s even improved on the offensive end, averaging a career-high 14.3 points and 3.0 three-pointers for the season. Those numbers have been on the rise, as well, with him averaging 16.3 points and 3.6 three-pointers over the last 13 games.

Guillermo Hernangomez ($4,800): Steven Adams ($6,200) has been battling an ankle injury, which has resulted in an expanded role for Hernangomez. He’s played well, scoring at least 25.8 DKFP in five of the last seven games. Adams did make his return from a two-game absence Wednesday and played 31 minutes. The question is, how much will he play on the second leg of this back-to-back set? If he sees limited minutes, or is rested, Hernangomez could provide excellent value.

D.J. Augustin ($4,200): The Bucks are expected to play this game without Jrue Holiday (health protocols), who is listed as doubtful. Augustin has played an expanded role in his absence, even moving into the starting lineup for the last three games. While he didn’t exactly produce eye-popping numbers, he did score at least 23 DKFP in two of those contests. That’s enough to at least put him on your radar at this salary.

Fades

Eric Bledsoe ($5,200): There is the revenge narrative here with Bledsoe set to face his former squad. Still, it might be best to avoid the temptation of going with it and adding him to your lineup. He’s not one of the focal points of the Pelicans’ offense, averaging just 12.4 points per game. Also, with Ball running the point, Bledsoe is averaging just 3.5 assists. That would be his lowest mark since the 2012-13 season.

The Outcome

The last time these two teams met, the Pelicans won by five points in New Orleans. However, the Bucks are a much better team at home, posting a 12-4 record there, compared to a 7-9 mark on the road. The absence of Holiday could make this a close contest, but look for the Bucks to emerge with the victory.

Final Score: Bucks 119, Pelicans 112
