Fantasy Basketball Picks: Top DraftKings NBA DFS Lineup Strategy for Mavericks vs. Nets Showdown on February 27

Kenny Ducey gives his top NBA lineup advice for Saturday’s fantasy basketball Showdown contest on DraftKings between the Mavericks and Nets, which starts at 8:30 p.m. ET.

A great NBA slate on Saturday comes to an end in Brooklyn, where the Nets play host to the Dallas Mavericks in the nightcap. Brooklyn comes in the talk of the basketball world, winners of eight straight, while the Mavericks have won seven of 10 and now get set to (likely) welcome back Kristaps Porzingis ($9,200), who expects to play in this one after sitting with a back issue. It should make for a good, fun game and a challenging showdown to attack. DraftKings is also running a charity DFS contest for this showdown with 100% of the entry fees benefitting Feeding Texas. Let’s get into how to construct your Showdown lineups for Saturday evening.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Nets PG Kyrie Irving (injury recovery) has been ruled out for tonight’s game vs. the Mavericks.

Captain

James Harden ($18,300 CP)

Ever since Kevin Durant was sidelined a couple of weeks ago, it’s been the James Harden show. His usage rate has been at or above 30% in all but one of the six games he’s played without KD, and he’s gone for an average of a whopping 62.66 DKFP in those contests scoring 29.3 points per game with 10.7 assists and 8.5 rebounds. Given those numbers and Luka Doncic’s less-than-impressive defensive marks, a triple-double should be very much in play here.

Kristaps Porzingis ($13,800 CP)

Porzingis was upgraded to probable today and says he expects to play in this one, and if he does, I think he’s set up for a fantastic game. The Nets have improved as a whole on defense over the past eight games, but they still have lacked the ability to defend inside. Opponents are scoring 50 points per game in the paint, which is right in line with their season average, and are shooting over 60% from inside eight feet. DeAndre Jordan ($7,000) has been a poor defender this year and should get cooked by KP in the post, if he chooses to play there.

Fades

Jeff Green ($5,200)

He probably wasn’t at the top of your list, but I’m still recommending you stay away from Green. Maxi Kleber ($4,600; 109.2 DRtg) is actually one of the Mavericks’ best defenders, and it’s easy to stop Green, who has averaged 34 minutes over the past two games but just 11.25 DKFP in those games. He’s not a primary rebounder, competing with Jordan and the Nets’ star guards, and he’s certainly not a facilitator. This leaves scoring as his only method of making an impact, and I don’t see it given the matchup.

Value FLEX Options

Bruce Brown ($5,600)

It’s hard not to love Brown on every slate, considering the massive upside he’s flashed at such a low price. As long as Durant’s out, Brown’s going to be turned to for at least 25 minutes per game, and he’s certainly found his scoring touch as of late. Against a defense that allows shots to fall at a 46.8% rate, he should be able to get on the board plenty.

Nicolas Claxton ($2,000)

The Nets have shown they’d like to get Claxton involved and make him a regular part of their rotation, so he should see around 15 minutes again against Dallas. The Mavs’ poor 48.1% rebounding rate — fourth-worst in the league — should give Claxton the chance to hit at least six times his salary.

The Outcome

This one should prove to be closer than many are anticipating, given Porzingis’ return and the lopsided matchup he’ll find himself in. The Nets’ defense should come back down to Earth a little in this one; their recent opponents have either been inept on the offensive end or in a massive slump. Dallas should be up to the task of scoring on this collection of average defenders and keep this close in a shootout. Brooklyn by just a hair.

Final Score: Nets 128, Mavericks 126
