Chelsea started a new era with a convincing win, while Tottenham is heading the wrong way after a stellar start to the season. Both teams will meet on Thursday in a crucial London derby from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. We break down some picks for you to consider for DraftKings’ Showdown contest.

Captain

Son Heung-Min ($16,800)

Harry Kane’s absence will be so substantial that Son will have to bear the entire offensive responsibility, at least in terms of leading a rather young and inexperienced team. Son has been terrific this season, having scored 12 goals on 38 shots taken along with six assists, second in Tottenham in all three metrics. He has averaged 17.5 DKFP per game.

Others to consider: Mason Mount ($17,100)

High-priced flex options

Mason Mount ($11,400)

Mount is the provider for Chelsea. Most offensive plays go through him because of his creativity and dribbling technique. He has taken 39 shots this season, second most for Chelsea. He has also chipped in with three assists. He has been equally important defensively too: he has made 47 successful tackles and 24 interceptions, also second in Chelsea in these two areas.

Olivier Giroud ($10,200)

After sitting out the entirety of Chelsea’s weekend game against Burnley, it might be Giroud who is rotated back into the starting XI for this game. It will be interesting to see how Chelsea manages the rotation under new management, but Giroud is no slouch. He is lethal in the air because of his strength and height, and could easily help Chelsea with a goal even if he comes on as a substitute.

Christian Pulisic ($10,000)

Succession planning is so important in any field. When Chelsea was leading, manager Frank Lampard usually rotated between his two main strikers or Pulisic. In the previous game, Pulisic was brought in for Tammy Abraham ($9,600) with Chelsea bossing the game even under a new manager, an indicator that Chelsea won’t tamper much. In this game, Pulisic might even start considering the quicker turnaround.

Others to consider: Gareth Bale ($9,200)

Value flex options

Cesar Azpilicueta ($7,000)

Azpilicueta opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 2-0 win against Burnley over the weekend. While that goal was a tad surprising because he doesn’t usually put himself in those positions, he is always an offensive threat with his crosses into the six-yard box from the right wing. Chelsea is unbeaten in the last nine games in the EPL when Azpilicueta has scored. With Kane missing, the chances of a clean sheet for Chelsea have increased significantly too.

Timo Werner ($9,400)

Werner has been extremely underwhelming this season after a sensational 2019-20 Bundesliga season. Still, he has scored four goals with four assists this season. He is even leading Chelsea in shots taken (44) this season. Even though a price of $9,400 isn’t exactly a value selection, he could easily provide a higher return on this investment.

Others to consider: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ($5,800)
